We’ve seen your hate comments. We’ve heard your concerns. We’ve tasted the bitter bliss of hundreds of people telling us “Andy Warhol is rolling in his grave” over the current state of Interview. Here at the magazine, we’d be the first to tell you we’ve never shied away from ruffling a few feathers. In fact, some might say we get off on the discourse. But inquiring minds want to know: Is Andy Warhol really looking over us, shaking his head with grave disappointment? Enter Sarah Potter , the go-to psychic medium connecting New Yorkers to the dead. A second sight since she was a child, Potter was the best person to help us squash this discourse once and for all. Surrounded by all of Andy’s favorite things from Corn Flakes to Coca-Cola to Campbell’s soup, the Interview team held a séance to ask our founder our burning questions about rage bait, OnlyFans, and who should be our next cover star.
WEDNESDAY 12:45 PM OCTOBER 21, 2026 NEW YORK CITY
MEL OTTENBERG: I was speaking to a tarot person who was claiming that they were getting messages from Andy Warhol for me. But I don’t know if that is true.
SARAH POTTER: How did it feel to receive that?
OTTENBERG: Well, the messages that the tarot card reader was giving me were very positive, but I don’t know how I feel about that.
POTTER: I just want to say thank you for inviting me in to do this and trusting me to do what I do. I love this work. I grew up as a psychic child.
OTTENBERG: Oh wow. Where did you grow up?
POTTER: New Jersey, not far from the Jersey Shore. We can get a lot of comfort through a mediumship session and have time with someone that means a lot to us, whether we met them or not. I always say doing a session like this, it’s like planning a party and you send out the invitations and if people are available, they come through. I don’t want anyone to feel scared. There’s a lot of misconceptions about this work. Ready?
POTTER: So I was telling you guys how I was tasting the Coca-Cola and craving sugar, and to have that affirmed by you guys shows me that Andy’s spirit is here and he’s okay with us doing this. He’s amused by this. It didn’t feel like you guys did this before, but people are calling Andy in basically.
OTTENBERG: Yeah, someone else wanted to do this.
POTTER: Andy’s very comfortable with all of you because you’re continuing his vision. But I did get this feeling almost like what I would describe as a little timid, which surprised me. He feels like someone to me who is very private. I was also telling Mel, the energy I got from him immediately was that he’s really proud of you guys and the work you’re doing. It just feels like the legacy is continuing. But does anyone have any questions?
OTTENBERG: Are we going to pull some cards?
POTTER: Yeah. Tarot is my favorite tool to use. I can start with that.
RUSSELL: Well, what prompted this is whenever we post anything on social media that people don’t like, they always say “Andy Warhol’s rolling in his grave.” We wanted to know how he feels about certain stories that we’ve done.
POTTER: The immediate reaction that I got was no. But what is funny is he’s enjoying that people are saying that.
EMILY KIRKPATRICK: We also enjoy it. [Laughs]
OTTENBERG: I’m not going to say I’m a scholar of Andy Warhol, but people only say that when it’s stuff he would not care about.
POTTER: That makes sense to me. Well, I’m feeling the messages and then I’m trying to contextualize them into today where I feel like clearly Andy loves art and loves pop culture and loves celebrity, we all know this. But the way it was when he was here has changed. So when I was telling you that he’s really proud of you, it was because you’re keeping the vision alive. Of course the vision’s not going to look the same. But he’s enjoying that people are even saying that on the internet, it’s playing into the idea of people paying attention. If no one was commenting, then Andy would have a problem.
POTTER: Yes, exactly. Andy showed me he wouldn’t fight you about the people you’re highlighting. To me, it’s very much true to the message of why this magazine is here. This feels funny to say, but he still has a hand in the hiring process here. So you wouldn’t be here if he didn’t support your point of view. He trusts what’s going on here.
RUSSELL: Is there any story that we’ve done that he feels like, “Wow, you hit the mark on the head with it?” Andy Warhol, praise us, please.
POTTER: Okay. This is what I heard. I’m being shown the February issue and as I see the pages are opening and closing. It’s almost like something is lighting up the cover. Do you write a letter from the editor?
POTTER: I feel like that was really good. Who was on the cover?
RUSSELL: We had Robert Pattinson and Zendaya for our March cover, but I think it dropped in February. That was a really big cover for us.
POTTER: Okay. I appreciate that I’ll be able to see the copy and I’ll just flip through it and we’ll see what goes on there.
POTTER: Thank you so much. Wow, that is a good cover. [Flipping through pages of the March 2026 issue] I mean, I was directed to this.
POTTER: I was just directed to stop here. [Flips to the Chloé Zhao feature] I also feel like this really stood out. [Stops on the Aidan Zamiri feature]
RUSSELL: Is that the interview you did, Mel?
POTTER: [Flips to Paris Hilton feature] Wow.
OTTENBERG: I couldn’t tell if you knew that you were touching Paris Hilton’s soul or not.
POTTER: Oh my gosh. No, that feels like Andy’s humor to me because I was like, “Okay, there’s something else he wants to show me.” And I was like, “It’s towards the back.” I have to be honest, I don’t know a lot about pop culture, so I need help with contextualizing, but I do know who Paris Hilton is. [Laughs] She is such an icon. But when we’re thinking about celebrity in the modern context, of course Andy’s going to direct us to Paris Hilton. This feels very much representative of the energy that he wants in the magazine.
OTTENBERG: My God, look, look, look, at the similarities. [Puts Paris Hilton feature next to Interview December 1972 cover] The red. Isn’t that spooky?
POTTER: I also think that red is a power color for this magazine.
POTTER: So use red as much as possible. I’m feeling a lot of red for Andy, and that is a color that makes him really happy. So let’s bring it in as much as we can.
POTTER: “People are going to buy it if it’s red.” And I also want to say, keep it big. This magazine is large, it’s just big energies, big personalities. I also feel like it doesn’t matter if the collective likes people.
POTTER: I mean, he’s not saying platform hateful people, of course not, but someone who is getting attention, that’s good.
OTTENBERG: This is not Profiles in Courage magazine.
OTTENBERG: That is what I like to say sometimes when people are like, “Mel Ottenberg should die for doing this in the magazine.” I’m always like, “What are you talking about? I didn’t say I liked this person, I just feel like they should be in Interview magazine.”
POTTER: Keep with that vision because that is Andy’s vision too.
POTTER: I just can’t get over that we stopped on Paris Hilton because everything I was describing about the energy I was picking up from Andy, it’s very similar to her energy. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a little shy or reserved. That’s the energy I got from Andy and I’m getting that from her.
OTTENBERG: You’re right, Paris Hilton is deeply Warhol.
RUSSELL: How does Andy feel about Kim Kardashian?
POTTER: He’s laughing, I’m getting this real humor. Wasn’t Kim on the cover?
KIRKPATRICK: Can I ask about OnlyFans? Because I feel like the number one thing people say when we cover OnlyFans models is, “He would hate that.” I would just like it on the record.
OTTENBERG: I don’t really remember that much porn star stuff, but he was super horny and was always shooting naked people’s hot bodies. People can fuck off.
POTTER: Okay, this is hilarious. First of all, Andy would totally support OnlyFans, sex workers, porn stars. Absolutely.
POTTER: Now, the reason why I said that is because the Nine of Cups, I would call this our “wish come true” card. This card also brings up pleasure and enjoyment. The way the cards are showing, people are living life on their own terms, how beautiful is that? That is art. So it’s absurd to me that anyone would think that Andy is against that way of portraying oneself. I actually feel like what I’m getting from Andy is that he feels very open-minded to me.
OTTENBERG: Wait, let’s see my editor’s letter.
POTTER: Oh my god. Look what you said. “Ghosts are real.”
OTTENBERG: I was telling these gorgeous actress sisters, Anna and Grace Van Patten, about the ghost in my apartment. That’s crazy. I truly did not remember. It could have been just a photograph as far as I could remember.
POTTER: Really? I mean, I always tell all my clients, “You can’t make this stuff up.”
OTTENBERG: Yeah, no, that’s crazy. Wow. Shit.
POTTER: And when I was saying to you guys, “Andy’s amused by the fact that we’re doing this” this feels very aligned with the humor that I’m talking about. I don’t believe in coincidences. So ghosts are real. Thank you, Mel.
POTTER: You don’t have to answer this but something that I get is that Andy’s providing information to you and I don’t know if you’re aware of that consciously or not. Does that make sense what I’m saying there?
OTTENBERG: No, I’m not aware. There is a ghost in my apartment, which I talked about in there.
OTTENBERG: Well, this other medium helped me deal with a possible nefarious spirit, but in the same words, she said the same thing pretty much.
SANDSTROM: Is there something we are doing that he’s not into?
POTTER: Two things coming up in the cards, indication of travel and also celebration and even weddings. Do you guys write about weddings?
RUSSELL: I’m always saying that I want to write about weddings.
KIRKPATRICK: Ary and I have this conversation a lot, she wants to write about weddings and I’m always like, “But what is the Interview way to write about weddings?”
SANDSTROM: Is it coming up because we should or should not?
POTTER: I think it’s worth exploring. Even the way I presented it was confusion. So I think you’re onto something because it’s coming through but if you’re going to do weddings, you’re going to do weddings in a way that no one else is doing them.
RUSSELL: I don’t know how tapped in people are in the afterlife with what’s going on in current pop culture. Does Andy have an idea of who should be our next cover?
POTTER: You need to focus more on who’s exciting Gen Z.
OTTENBERG: I just think we need a Gen Z cover.
POTTER: This makes so much sense because Andy’s interested in-
RUSSELL: Does he have any final lasting messages before we close out?
POTTER: I think you guys need to have fun. It’s funny because I pulled this card about celebration, so bring in that energy.
POTTER: Yeah. How about we all hold hands, if that’s okay? I’m just going to ask everyone to close their eyes. Let’s just take a nice big deep breath in through your nose. And exhale. We are so thankful to you, Andy Warhol, for joining us today, for sharing your beautiful energy with us, for answering our questions, and for truly blessing this space with your vision and talent. You may open your eyes. Thank you, everyone.
