Fans of Dexter who hated the antihero’s fate in the original series finale probably feel so vindicated right now. Has there ever been a bigger “never mind” in pop culture? I don’t know! You honestly might as well call this show Dexter: Retcon . It is a sequel to Dexter: New Blood , which was also of course a sequel to Dexter . The first season took the “good” serial killer to New York City in search of his grown-up son. But fatherly duties can’t keep him from pulling out the plastic sheets. A new city actually leds to so, so many opportunities for dark vengeance. In that first season, Dexter met a “club” of serial killers lead by a character played by Peter Dinklage. What next? Season 2 promises an equally impressive murderers’ row.
Spoiler alert , but you’ll still see David Zayas play Angel Batista, even though he died at the end of Season 1, in some capacity this season. You’ll also continue to see James Remar play Harry Morgan, Dexter’s deceased father and spiritual guide. As for the other main characters, new and returning, here’s a who’s who.
Dexter is, as I’m sure you know, a serial killer whose adopted father Harry “trained” to have a strict moral code and only murder other killers and dangerous criminals.
Michael C. Hall has now played his best-known character on Dexter, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and Dexter: Resurrection . Before that, he was already pretty well known for playing David Fisher on HBO’s Six Feet Under . He played John F. Kennedy in one episode of The Crown . He is a Golden Globe and SAG Award winner. Hall is also a winning stage actor whose Broadway credits alone include Chicago, Cabaret, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch . Theatre-lovers also know that he starred in the David Bowie musical Lazarus off-Broadway and in London. And some of his film credits include Game Night, Kill Your Darlings, and Christine .
Harrison is Dexter and Rita’s now grown-up son. This season he’s joining the NYPD.
Jack Alcott first started playing Harrison in Dexter: New Blood back in 2021. He was also a lead on the miniseries The Good Lord Bird . He guest starred in Poker Face and The Blacklist . To this date, he only has one film credit: the 2025 supernatural western Killing Faith .
Charley is a security guard who worked for a rich but late serial killer.
Over 20 years later, Uma Thurman is still probably best known for the Kill Bill duology and Pulp Fiction . Let’s never, ever forget that she played Poison Ivy in Batman & Robin , either. She is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress. While she’s not really known for television, some of her previous small screen credits include Suspicion, Hysterical Blindness, Chambers, NBC’s The Slap, and NBC’s Smash . It’s very possible that the last thing you saw her in was Red, White & Royal Blue as the President of the United States... NBD!
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine plays Blessing Kamara
Blessing is a rideshare driver, Dexter’s landlord, and first friend in NYC.
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine played Ronnie Davis on The Chi for 30 episodes and Jacques Jhoni on Tremé for 26 episodes. His other television credits include Heroes, The Riches, The Knick, and The Lincoln Lawyer . On the big screen, you may have seen him in Blood Diamond, Queen of Katwe, or Farewell Amor .
Claudette is an NYPD detective who worked with Harrison in season 1 and could pose a threat to Dexter for obvious reasons.
Kadia Saraf played a U.S. Attorney on seven episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and reprised her role on Law & Order: Organized Crime . She popped up on many other procedural shows before and has continued to since, including FBI, Blue Bloods, Rescue Me, and The Good Fight .
Fiona is an NYPD training officer who befriends Harrison. Her father, played by Bokeem Woodbine, is the captain.
Prior to Dexter: Resurrection, Nona Parker Johnson also played a police detective on Law & Order: Organized Crime . Her other television credits include recurring roles on Fear the Walking Dead, Mayor of Kingstown, and Sugar .
Krysten Ritter plays Mia LaPierre aka Lady Vengeance
Mia is a member of a former social club for serial killers who met and befriended Dexter in the first season. Dexter has not decided to “do what he does” with her yet.
Krysten Ritter is doing double duty on the fictional streets of New York City these days. She also plays the street-level superhero Jessica Jones on Daredevil: Born Again , reprising her role from Netflix’s various Marvel series in the Defenders universe. She’s also known for Don’t Trust the B in Apt 23, Breaking Bad, Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, Orphan Black: Echoes, 27 Dresses, Mona Lisa Smile, and Vamps .
Brian Cox plays Don Framt a.k.a. the New York Ripper
Don is a former serial killer taunting his “alleged” victims.
Hopefully you know Brian Cox from Succession and not just the McDonald’s commercials... but they are very good commercials! He is an Olivier, Emmy, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-winning actor. His film credits include The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Her, Zodiac, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, X2, Troy, Adaptation, and Braveheart . Prior to Dexter and Succession , his television credits included War & Peace, Penny Dreadful, The Straits, Kings, Deadwood, and an Emmy-nominated guest turn on Frasier .
Dan Stevens plays Lucas Stark a.k.a. the Five Borough Killer
rLucas is another new serial killer this season. He is actively killing and wants attention. Or he’s willing to risk attention to prove that the NYPD can’t catch him even with ample warning.
Dan Stevens was best known for playing Matthew Crawley on Downton Abbey . His career has kind of taken only left turns since. (Metaphorically. I know geographically that’s a circle.) He played the Beast in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast . He starred as the Marvel Comics antihero David Haller on the FX series Legion. He had a leading role in the recent season of The Terror, and his other film credits include The Guest, Abigail, Eurovision, Cuckoo, and the recent Godzilla x Kong movies.
Gabriel Luna plays Ray Ballard a.k.a. the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger
Finally, Ray is a third new serial killer this season. Will he be bested by Dexter, or be the one to best him? We’ll have to wait and see.
Luna is best known these days for playing Tommy on HBO’s The Last of Us . He was also a version of the Marvel comics character Ghost Rider on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and played a Terminator called Rev-9 in Terminator: Dark Fate . You might also know him from shows like Matador, The Terminal List, True Detective, and Wicked City .
