Those infamous words from Deloss Dodds have aged like milk in the Texas sun in the decade plus since they were spoken. The Longhorns have had so many "we're back!" moments, the phrase has become the program's calling card moreso than their actual results.
Yet they find themselves closer than ever in 2026. They're gunning for their third College Football Playoff bid under Steve Sarkisian, though precariously so. After shock back-to-back losses against Oklahoma and Florida, Texas has to navigate back-to-back road games against Mizzou and LSU if they want to hang on to their hopes of making the 12-team field.
Meanwhile, Missouri is fighting for their spot to be considered. They've yet to lose at home and will consider this Saturday as their best shot so far at usurping a team currently in contention. They barely got out of second gear against Arkansas and were able to reintegrate a number of injured players while still coasting to a 24-point victory.
FanDuel sees it as a close one, with Texas slightly favored by 3.5 points . Winner gets to stay in the hunt; loser gets to regroup and try again next year. Add a little old school Big XII heat on?
